Our story:

When my grandpa was a little boy he had to flee from Russia. He did this by getting on a train and travelling through the night with his parents and brother.

He told stories to me about the memory of this experience. How scared he was as he boarded the train at dusk, and how just in those moments before he had smelt the air- pungent and familiar coming from the forrest.

The crisp night air was a sensory explosion, encapsulated forever as a poignant memory, that superseded a pivotal journey from one land to another.

He spoke often of the scent and his love of the forest in his native land.

He would describe the sound of leaves under his feet as he ran and played in the forest, the light on the trees, the crisp air and the scent. He always spoke of the scent, trying to find words to describe it to me as I sat on his lap listening to his soft voice, lost in childhood memories.

I found out long after he died that his grandmother had foraged from the land to make medicinal formulas for him when he was unwell. She always had her hands in the earth carefully choosing leaves and roots and flowers to make medicine from.

As a little girl I tried to re-create the scents he described to me, foraging in my city streets for Rose petals, Lavender and Mint, yearning to be taken to those far away places of childhood forests he described.

Long after he died I created VIOR, in memory of him, the forest air of our ancestral land and my great grandmothers healing medicines.

I travelled to continents where indigenous medicines and ancient formulas were still in use. The recipe, originally from Shamans in Thailand, has been tweaked and refined by me over the past 9 years adding more forest magic, healing incantations and powerful alchemy.
